Inspired By: Wedding Details

Blogging all these weddings, and shooting them!, has me so inspired right now. I thought I’d share that inspiration with you in a quick post. Whether you’re planning a wedding coming up, dreaming of a wedding one day down the road, or shooting a wedding it’s so important to focus on the details of the day. Yes, it’s important to get a good caterer, fed guests are happy guests; and of course you want to make sure you have some type of music so you can party all night long. But in my opinion, it’s the little things that draw the whole day together. Whether it be hot pink shoes peeking out from under your lovely dress, or name cards handwritten on pieces of driftwood for your beach theme, there’s so many little things you can do to carry a theme, or your colors, through the whole wedding.

Not to mention, as a photographer, I can’t help but love when everything is cohesive. When I sit down to write these blog posts, or put together an album for my client, those little details are great “cushion” photos for a post. They tie everything together and really create a stunning display for what the feel of your wedding was. Take for example this photo I found on Pinterest:

So it’s a yellow and gray theme, or grey as they say, but it doesn’t just end with the bridesmaids dresses and the bouquets as some are wont to do. No, this color scheme is carried right through to the very last detail. Imagine a wedding put together like this. Yellow bowties? How clever. Striped straws, cute and functional! Not to mention the delicious yellow wrapped chocolate bars I can assume would be party favors. Then you step back and look at all these photos together, don’t they just…”go” so nicely? Imagine walking into a reception hall and being greeted by this attention to detail. I absolutely love it. I think it would take my breath away.

So, for your viewing pleasure and maybe to give you a boost on planning your *fingers crossed* details wedding, I collected a few images on Pinterest that might be of use to you. Think about the little things you can include in your day and wonder if maybe you could pass it off with part of your theme.  A lot of the ideas you’ll find will probably be pretty cheap, and usually are also pretty diy. Flowers, tea lights, just think of things you can get in multiples and run with it. You never know what you’ll find! or mix it up and go thrifting for candle stick holders to use in your centerpieces, for example. They might not all look exactly the same, but they’re antique candle stick holders and that is enough of a similarity to carry a theme. Have fun with! Go crazy with it or keep it simple! Just remember to think of the little things, and I promise, it’ll be worth it at the end of the day.

Keep being inspired,

Kay

Inspired By: Conceptual Photography

Usually, looking through my photos you’ll see a lot of portraits, landscape, and the like. It’s pretty simple, it’s the act of capturing what I see as it is. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it. I don’t find it monotonous or boring. I think it’s amazing that we have the technology to capture these memories, the God-crafted beauty of a sunset. I love that I’ve been blessed with this passion. I enjoy that I can then share it with the rest of you, and in turn see what you share. But something I don’t feel I’ve done enough is work with conceptualism. There’s so much more to photography, editing, and the inclusion of ideas than a simple portrait. There’s so many ways I can stretch myself and practice  honing certain skills. I love to just play around in Photoshop and get to know what each slider, function, or shortcut does. Right now a simple edit of mine looks something like this:

Inspired By: Some of Our Small Business Friends!

inspiration

Hello again friends,

It seems like time flies between each time I get to reach out and inspire you. Luckily for me I am continuously being inspired by everything around me. This week I bring that inspiration to you through the work of others. Especially the work of friends. I think it’s amazing that in this current world of social media and complete connectedness(I think I just made this word up…) we can watch, and help, each other grow as small businesses. Therefore today, I would like to showcase some of those friends who have either helped us out or we’d just love to see grow more in their pursuit of doing what they love.

As small business owners Amy and I know the ups and downs of trying to book commissions. We understand the years it takes to get the business up and running when you’re starting from scratch. We too have felt the sacrifices made, because we are right there alongside everyone! We’re still in the early stages! But one of the rewarding things we’ve noticed in starting our own company is how awesome a community small business owners are. I encourage you to check out a few of our friends below, see if you can help support their businesses, or even spread the word about them. A little bit of help goes a long way in this community!

A Little Inspiration||For Your Home Office

Good afternoon my friends!

I do hope you’re having a fantastic fall day. It’s beautiful out there, if but a wee bit chilly, but today I’m working from home. So I am inspired by the thoughts of a beautiful home office. One day I’ll have one, but for now I’ll work at the little desk in the corner of my room. A girl can dream though, of open windows, tons of cabinets for storage, and desks wide enough for computers and books and camera supplies. I always like to interior decorate my dream home in my mind. Pinterest is a fantastic tool for doing that. I have a board called “dream home” and it’s chock full of beautiful pictures.

But for today’s purposes, I made one on our Walker Studios Pinterest called “Home Office”. Have a look at any of the other boards for inspiration but here I’ll share why I chose the ones I did for my home office inspiration!

Inspiration: Pinterest Edition #2!

Hello my friends!

Today I bring you a little bit of inspiration. In the form of “diy” posts from Pinterest! I don’t know if it’s the fact I have creative blood in my genes, or that Pinterest is so addicting, or I just love the idea of making something from scratch…but I can spend HOURS on diy boards. There’s something about them that get me so excited. I’m fascinated by how easy it is to make certain things. Have I made anything I’ve pinned? Maybe only a few, a lot less than I’d like but…when I have time one day (that one day seems to forever be pushed off) I’d like to get into making a few more of these crafty inventions.

A Little Inspiration: It’s October! It’s Autumn!

Hello my faithful followers!

I don’t think I’ll ever really get this posting on time thing down.  But I’m not that upset by it. Amy and I have been working hard to tie up loose ends before Kristianna (my niece!) arrives. Tomorrow is technically her due date, but we all know babies do their own thing. So who knows if it will happen tomorrow. If it does, we’re all set and ready for her, if it doesn’t…well we are still all set and ready for her! That being said, it’s time for my bi-weekly inspiration post!

Today I’m inspired by all things fall! We live in New England, one of what I think is the most beautiful places to live in the fall. The leaves are changing, the apple cider is mulling, the pumpkins are appearing in every storefront. Ahh, it’s lovely. The colors are my favorite thing!

A Little Inspiration: In the Form of Words

Why hello there friends,

I’m sitting here, knowing this blog post is late, with an idea in mind of what to write about…but I think it needs to change. I had a blog lined up that I draw inspiration from, a person really. And maybe you’ll get to meet them next time I do an inspiration post, but for today, that’s not what is inspiring me.

Instead I’m sitting here with my windows open, freshly baked banana bread (well I made it last night before bed) ready to be eaten, and the sun shining into the kitchen. Today is not a day for being inspired by blog posts and other people’s photo shoots. Today I am inspired by nature, by God’s majestic glory, by everything right outside my window.

A Little Inspiration: Pinterest Edition

Hello fellow bloggers, photographers, and any other lovely person coming across this blog!

Today I’ve gathered a bit of “pinspiration” to share with y’all. Know what I’m inspired by these days? Baby portraits! No big surprise with Amy (my sister) only a month away from Baby K being born, and with Gavin (my nephew) having turned 6 months old in August. Not to mention I just absolutely love children and I could look at baby photoshoots all day 😉

In preparation for this blog post, I went onto our Pinterest and started to browse through some baby shoots. I started with newborns and went to the six month photoshoots. All of them are adorable and it was hard to choose a few to share with you, but I compiled some of each that inspired me and got me excited to do some more baby shoots!

A Little Inspiration: Blog Edition

I’m late in doing this post because Amy and I were in Maine for a week and a half. Sometimes it’s hard to do these type of things when you only have a phone with you and not a computer. But alas, Amy managed to post both hers on time over on her blog, so there’s really no excuse! Without further ado, here is my first installation of a “blogspiration” post!

Today I’ve decided to highlight a blog I often visit for inspiration. Since this is a season of weddings I’ve chosen one that features weddings the most often! Walker Studios has been busy itself with weddings, such as the one we just shot on August 10th and the one we will be shooting on September 1st! Before a wedding I like to browse blogs, pinterest, and Facebook pages to check out poses and ideas I might not have been thinking of. I look for inspiration on how to shoot the best way possible. Wedding in a barn? I go look how others have composed pictures and dealt with low lighting situations. Obviously I’m not looking to copy their style, or steal their shots, but I believe that artists are always growing and the best way to learn is to see how others are doing it then you can add your own flair to it.
