A Quick Update

Image

First of all, happy summer! I am so excited all this warm weather is here. I’m currently sitting in my backyard writing this here post for y’all.

Now, the questions. What happened to the 52 weeks? Is Kay still shooting? Is Walker Studios LLC still in business? What happened to the blogs!

….I know, I know. It’s amazing really, the more we do, the less we share! We’ve been blessed lately with a lot to do but with that comes the responsibility of managing time. Unfortunately we’ve been a bit behind in blogging everything we’ve been doing due to timing issues. Amy and I will both be stepping up in this area though. We realize it’s as important to share our work as it is to shoot it. Word of mouth is our best friend, and how can we grow a client base if we’re never connecting with you, our clients!

A Drop Will “Dew” Ya

Okay, maybe they weren’t technically “dew” drops. They were rain drops, but, it works better in the title to say dew ya, not rain ya. But they were drops of water and they were spectacular! I got nice and up close and personal with them and my macro filter on Thursday.

I feel like I am constantly reminding you readers to “stop and smell the roses” or “notice the beauty around you” or just to take note of the finer details in life. That’s something I love. I love details. You’ll often find me at a wedding taking more shots of the flowers and cake and fun little table decor than the people. Sometimes I have to remind myself to capture the whole picture 😉 Those details though, they are what I find beautiful, because with them, the entire picture is better. This is why, on a rainy day, I decided to go out for a walk with Amy. We went to Lake Wintergreen and it ended up only misting on us which was great, and the overcast sky made for gorgeous colors. Generally I find rainy days make me tired and everything looks gray. But I didn’t want to just look at that big picture, I wanted to find the little details that can make a rainy day as majestic as a day full of sunshine.

{52 Weeks} Week Six: Finding Your Place in a Fast-Paced World

Week66/52- Finding Your Place in a Fast- Paced World

Sometimes you feel like the world is flying by. Everything is going by in a blur. People have their schedules, jobs, things to attend to and if you’re not aware of where you stand, you will be lost among them as they speed past. That is where I don’t want to be, lost in the monotony of a life lived too fast. I don’t want to have a schedule that runs my life, I want to dictate what I do with my time. I don’t want to become another “they” in the grand scheme of a workforce. I want to enjoy what I’m doing and be able to say it was time well spent. I don’t want to rush through life’s experiences caught up in the whirlwind, I want to see the little moments pass by. Finding your place in the rush of a fast-paced world is difficult. You may often feel pulled along with it, but if you can stand your ground as everyone speeds by, it’ll be worth it.

{52 Weeks} Week Three: Bibliophile

week33/52: Bibliophile

If you know me, you know I love to read. I never have enough space on my bookshelves. I constantly have at least three different books in the works. I just love them! When I read, I get lost in the books, it’s just the story and I. They become my world and I am next to nothing in comparison. I forget everything that is going on around me and really dive headfirst into them. I used to wish for my dream job to be one where I could get paid to just sit and read all day. How amazing would that be? A cup of tea or coffee, some biscuits, and a book. All day long. It would be amazing. For me, books are therapy. Had a bad day? Read a book. Feeling blue? Get lost in the story. Dreary weather outside? Take a trip through the pages. I’ve been reading since childhood and I hope I never lose the love I have for it.

Inspired By: Some of Our Small Business Friends!

inspiration

Hello again friends,

It seems like time flies between each time I get to reach out and inspire you. Luckily for me I am continuously being inspired by everything around me. This week I bring that inspiration to you through the work of others. Especially the work of friends. I think it’s amazing that in this current world of social media and complete connectedness(I think I just made this word up…) we can watch, and help, each other grow as small businesses. Therefore today, I would like to showcase some of those friends who have either helped us out or we’d just love to see grow more in their pursuit of doing what they love.

As small business owners Amy and I know the ups and downs of trying to book commissions. We understand the years it takes to get the business up and running when you’re starting from scratch. We too have felt the sacrifices made, because we are right there alongside everyone! We’re still in the early stages! But one of the rewarding things we’ve noticed in starting our own company is how awesome a community small business owners are. I encourage you to check out a few of our friends below, see if you can help support their businesses, or even spread the word about them. A little bit of help goes a long way in this community!

A Little Inspiration: In the Form of Words

Why hello there friends,

I’m sitting here, knowing this blog post is late, with an idea in mind of what to write about…but I think it needs to change. I had a blog lined up that I draw inspiration from, a person really. And maybe you’ll get to meet them next time I do an inspiration post, but for today, that’s not what is inspiring me.

Instead I’m sitting here with my windows open, freshly baked banana bread (well I made it last night before bed) ready to be eaten, and the sun shining into the kitchen. Today is not a day for being inspired by blog posts and other people’s photo shoots. Today I am inspired by nature, by God’s majestic glory, by everything right outside my window.

Current Work: A Vineyard Wedding and A Maine Vacation

Good day my friends!

Admittedly it’d be a better day with sunshine, but dreary days are good for blog posts, right? I think they are, I don’t have any desire to go out into this weird weather, so I have the motivation to bring you my weekly blog! Today we’ll be looking at some of my current work, because the work of a photographer is never done. Not only are there commissioned shoots but you have to know how many “personal” pictures a photographer takes. 🙂 Unfortunately they’re often delayed when you have client work to edit, but I still get to them eventually!

So today I thought I’d show you the last wedding we shot (of which the sneak peeks just went up on Facebook so I’m going to share a few different ones!) AND some of my own personal stuff I’ve been working on. That’d be pictures from a week in Maine. The same week of the maternity shoot from my last current work post, but all the other pictures I took that week. Well, not alllll of them, because that’d be way too many, but a fun little selection.

And They Said It Couldn’t Be Done!

I bought a Canon 7d in July of 2012. I bought it used on Amazon because of how expensive they can be new, what with me still being in college and all. It came in almost perfect condition except for a tiny little chip in the bottom on the glass protecting the LCD screen on back. I didn’t think much of it other than it not being in perfect condition. I figured I bought it used so that’s what I got. Fast forward to sports weekend at Spofford…putting the camera down to actually play some games, letting others use the camera…basically not being overly protective of it…and coming home after the weekend away to see that the chip in the bottom had expanded into a little bit of a crack. It was kind of upsetting but the LCD wasn’t ruined and you could hardly see it when the screen was on. So I shrugged it off and tried to get over it. (At this point I’d also cracked the screen on my phone, bad week for technology in my life…)
But recently I happened to take a good look at said screen and the crack had been slowly but surely spiderwebbing over these past few months. The chip it started with had weakened the overall piece of glass, so anytime I bumped it, there was a chance the crack would grow. And grow it did. Until i finally got to the point where I just couldn’t leave it like that, knowing it could potentially damage the actual LCD screen. So I went to the internet!
